WESTFIELD CARINDALE – REPLACEMENT OF FAILED CAR PARK EXPANSION JOINTS WITH CPSX CARPARK EXPANSION JOINT

Heard Group Expansion Joint Installations has been replacing failed carpark expansion joint systems throughout the centre’s multi-storey carparks since 2015.

As the centre’s budget allows, Heard Group Expansion Joint Installations has been working through the numerous square metres of rooftop car park replacing the centre’s failed carpark expansion joints with CPSX Carpark Expansion Joint.

CPSX Carpark Expansion Joint is a car park expansion joint with a 100% water proof barrier, that allows motor vehicles pedestrians and trolleys to easily traverse the joint. No noise, no water leaks, no trip hazards and no expensive aluminium rails required.

The previous car park expansion joints were causing the centre’s management major headaches each time it rained. That is, each time it rained water would leak through the failed expansion joint and into the retail stores below causing both retail tenant and customer complaints. The metal cover plates were also a significant noise hazard. When cars traversed the failed joint they would make loud banging sounds as a result of the fixings continuously becoming loose and unable to be held into the concrete slab by fixings. The joints were also causing pedestrians to trip when they attempted to cross them and trolleys pushed by customers were difficult to get over the joint. This resulted in further complaints to management and in some case personal injury.

Unfortunately when the failed expansion joints were removed they leave spooled and cracked concrete as a result of the fixings cracking the concrete slab during thermal movement. PNSX Polymer Nosing System is used to repair the damage to the concrete slabs. PNSX Polymer Nosing is an elastomeric epoxy repair system that is stronger than concrete. It’s used to not only repair spooled and cracked concrete but also as a bedding filler for expansion joint covers.
